Project Objective: Install and process a seasoning system for the manufacturer’s crisp production facility in Belgium.

Project Scope:

The manufacturer is a long time Blackrow client who appointed us to install their process and seasoning system for their crisp production facility in Belgium. This included the installation of an 8 bay packing distribution system comprising of 2 twin lanes, each feeding 8 weighers from 2 directions.

The challenges of this project were that the installation area sat within the food manufacturing plant, which works 24 hours a day including weekends. In addition the client’s working policy varied from Blackrow, allowing contractors to no work more than 60 hours per week, meaning we had to relieve our personnel each week allowing for us to adhere to the working time policy.

Work carried out for the Distribution system included:

  • Installation of 2 Distribution Steelwork Platforms

  • Installation of 1 Weigher Steelwork Platform

  • Installation of 60 vibratory conveyors onto the platforms

  • Installation of 2 Washers

  • Installation of 8 Multi-head Weighers and Baggers

  • Installation of Check Weighers

  • Position of 1 Main Packing Panel at Platform level

  • Aluminium checker plate flooring fully welded on site

  • Stainless steel checker plate flooring fully welded on site

Services installed on the Distribution Platform consisted of:

  • Water (Sinks/Washers)

  • Compressed Air (Gates/Bag Makers)

  • Nitrogen (Bag Makers)

  • Vacuum Pipework (Bag/Box Makers)

Work carried out for the Seasoning System included:

  • Installation of 3 Intralox Elevators with Guarding

  • Installation of 3 Transfer Vibrators

  • Installation of 1 Fixed Position Flavour Drum

  • Installation of 3 Flavour Elevators

  • Installation of 3 Flavour Applicators

  • Installation of 3 LIW Unit Platforms

  • Installation of 3 Oil Spray Lance

  • Installation of 3 Flavour Feeders

  • Installation of 3 LSU Tank under the Platform

  • Installation of 3 Seasoning Skid Steelwork with access stairs

  • Installation of 3 Flow Weighers

  • Installation of 4 Transfer Conveyors

  • Installation of 2 Divert Conveyors

  • Installation of 1 Moisture Reject Conveyor

  • Installation of 1 Cooler Outfeed Conveyor

  • Installation of 11 vibratory conveyors onto the platforms

  • Installation of Pneumatic Piping

Despite the challenges, and the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic which meant our installation team had to stay in Belgium for the entire duration of the project, work was completed ahead of the key dates and within the allocated budget.
